It may not be the Pokémon Snap news we all wanted, as fans continue to beg for a sequel to the Nintendo 64 title, but if you have a Wii U Virtual Console and want to revisit a classic, you can!
For anyone not familiar with the beauty of Pokémon Snap, let me break it down for you. The 1990’s was a simpler time. I don’t think I have to go on a long rant involving politics, the economy, or that we were all a lot younger back then, but Nintendo released the photography simulator in 1999 in the US and 2000 in Europe. You met up with the familiar Professor Oak, who instead of telling you to walk around like a savage and battle poor Pokémon to lock them away in a small, ball-shaped capsule, instead instructs you to drive around and take pictures of Pokémon in their natural habitats. How pure is that?
Obviously, the graphics are out of date; the same reigns true for many of the Wii U Virtual Console games that allow you to play fan favorites from way back when, but it’s a fun and relaxing way to get your Pokémon and gaming fix all in one oldie but goodie.
It was announced by Nintendo that Pokémon Snap would be arriving this Thursday, August 18th, for European gamers. This is following an April release for players in Japan.
If you live in the Untied States or elsewhere and are looking for your chance to get in on the action, you may have to wait a bit longer. There is no official release date or confirmation that it is coming to American users, though I say it is a fair assumption to make that it should be heading this way soon. With how much Pokémon Snap 2 is demanded by the masses out this way, I don’t see how they don’t bring the original, and so far only, Pokémon Snap to all Wii U Virtual users.
One day my fellow fans…One day Nintendo will love us and give us the sweet fix we crave.
