WTF is up gamers! Pokémon Sun and Moon just recently released on the Nintendo 3DS and I’m here to tell you how to get some ultra rare Pokemon.
Once you’ve progressed past Route 2 of Pokémon Sun and Moon, you’ll be able to access a pretty neat future called the QR Scanner. Using the 3DS camera you will be able to scan QR Codes.
Each Pokémon has its own QR Code so scanning different codes can help you fill up your Pokedex and unlock new information on each Pokemon.
Here’s why that’s neat, once you scan 10 different QR Codes you’ll be given the option to do an Island Scan. Once the spot pops up on your map, just run into the tall grass and a battle will commence.
An Island Scan shows you the location of a Pokémon you usually wouldn’t be able to capture in the Alola Region. But be careful because you only get one opportunity to capture this specific Pokémon so make sure you’re prepared! So far we’ve caught a Chikorita, but we’ve also heard of many other starters being available.
Now you can only do this once per day. Island Scan’s differ with each island which means the level of the Pokémon will correspond with the island it is located in. You’ll also want to have the full Island unlocked before you do an Island Scan because you only have 1 hour to reach the location of the Pokemon before it disappears and it can appear in areas of the Island you haven’t unlocked via story yet.
To make things easier for you, here are all the QR Codes for all the different Alola Region Pokemon, courtesy of reddit.
