Nearly 25 years (that’s a quarter of a century, folks) after the release of the original “Mortal Kombat” live-action full-length motion picture, New Line Cinema and Warner Bros, Pictures have confirmed that a new MK full-length movie is in active development and will begin production later this year.
With pre-production scheduled to begin this May and production expected to begin by the end of this year, Producer James Wan (The Conjuring Films & Aquaman) has appointed first time film director Simon McQuoid to helm the project. The announcement was confirmed by the Premier of South Australia, Steven Marshall, commented on the announcement publicly during a press junket:
James Wan also commented on his excitement on bringing the beloved fighting game franchise back to the big screen: “I’m really happy and excited to be bringing another show back to Australia with Mortal Kombat, especially after having such a great experience filming Aquaman; Now we get to experience South Australia with its scenic locations and a wealth of artistic talent to work with. It will be perfectly suited for this fantasy-action project.”
