The Bravely Default team at Square Enix has been hard at work developing Project Octopath Traveler, an exclusive game for the Nintendo Switch. Project Octopath Traveler is a working title for the game and we’ll hopefully have the official name before the game is released in 2018.
The game is a 2.5 HD game where the backgrounds are 3D but the characters are 2D which gives the game a unique look. As a special feature of the game, players can choose 1 of 8 characters to start the adventure. Each character will have a different character command with different path actions for each character. An example is Olberic will be able to challenge any character and it may lead to new paths being open or sometimes it can out and evildoer. Another example is Primrose who can allure any individual and also receive support from villagers during battles.
For the battle system, it is a combination of a turn based combat system and a simple pick-up and play style. There is also the boost system which allows players to accumulate boost points to increase the strength of the character’s attacks, to chain attacks, or to help weaken allies.
The battle system reminds me of Bravely Default but with a few twists as well. I’ve been excited for the game the moment it was announced that the Bravely Default team is developing it. Just seeing the game makes me even more excited for the title to be released in 2018.
