And no, it’s not Triple Triad. It’s a new card game called Chocobo’s Crystal Hunt. It’s all about trying to steal your opponents’ crystals before they steal all of yours. The cards feature brand new illustrations of familiar drawings made just for this game.
“Help the Chocobos out on their Crystal hunt! Send your cute Chocobos on a journey to steal your opponents’ crystals… before they steal yours! Use your intuition and observation skills in this fast-paced, fun and addictive game for all ages.”
Contrary to what fans may think, this is not a trading card game. Chocobo’s Crystal Hunt comes complete in a box set with everything you need to play.
The game is meant for 3-5 players and comes with 43 cards.
The 43 cards are:
- Hunt cards: Chocobo × 14 / Fat Chocobo × 5
- Crystal Cards: Fire Crystal × 4 / Water Crystal × 4 / Wind Crystal × 4 / Earth Crystal × 4
- Monster cards: Bomb × 4 / Ahriman × 4
This game seems like an interesting direction to take Final Fantasy products. Especially with a card game already established with the FF universe. Fans of the Final Fantasy series may be familiar with the already existing card game, Triple Triad, which is playable in both Final Fantasy 8 and 14. It also is a part of the Final Fantasy Portal App as a free game. This new game is something entirely different, though. No veteran skills will work here, you’ve got more players and an entirely different strategy to work with. Plus, there’s no crystals to go after in the old game. This brings a sort of “old-school” sense to the board. This looks like it could be fun to play with friends who are fans and like the new artwork. Better go with fewer players though, with how few cards there are. Getting five people together may make it too quick to be fun.
Chocobo’s Crystal Hunt is now available for pre-order for $19.99 and comes out this October. You can pre-order HERE.
