The Resident Evil 2 re-boot may just be the game of every horror fans dreams, but how much are they willing to pay to show their love? Well, in Japan that answer may be more than you would expect. The Japan-exclusive Resident Evil 2 typewriter edition will set you back $900.
The typewriter comes as a part of the Resident Evil 2 Premium Edition and actually isn’t a typewriter at all. It’s a Bluetooth keyboard designed to look like the typewriters in the game.
Typewriters have become synonymous with the Resident Evil series as a means of saving in-game progress. So to include this item in a special edition of the game is pretty cool, but $900 cool?
Of course, the retro-inspired typewriter keyboard is not the only item you will receive in the premium edition, as you will also get:
- A static 12″ Leon Kennedy figure
- 4 ink ribbon packages that include tape sporting Resident Evil 2 designs
- A blueprint inspired poster for the Raccoon City Police Department
- A physical CD soundtrack
- An artbook
- DLC costumes and in-game goodies
- A copy of the game
It is interesting enough to point out that almost all of these items besides the typewriter, ink ribbon, and physical soundtrack (The US version comes with a digital soundtrack), come in the US collectors edition that only retails for $199.99. That means that the typewriter and ink ribbons are valued at around $700. It must be one heck of a keyboard for that price.

Resident Evil 2 originally launched on PS1, N64, Dreamcast, and PC January 21st, 1998. The reboot is set to launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on January 25th, 2019.
