With Rocksteady’s history working on the Arkham series it wasn’t hard to believe all the rumors that suggested their next title would be a Superman game. The studio’s co-founder may have just debunked the rumors with his latest tweet suggesting there is no Rocksteady Superman game.
Many speculated that the Game Awards might showcase the newest Rocksteady project as a surprise announcement. Sefton Hill, the co-founder of Rocksteady, took to Twitter to not only confirm that Rocksteady had nothing ready to announce yet, but that their next project is for sure not Superman.
Looking forward to #TheGameAwards this year! We’re still hard at work in our development bunker so don’t expect an announcement from @Rocksteadygames. When it’s ready to show, you’ll be the first to know. Spoiler: it’s not Superman 😳

So if it’s not Superman, then what is it? Well, it looks like we might not know for a little while. At least not until 2019. There have been other rumors floating around that Rocksteady could be working on something in the Harry Potter universe. Which would be incredible, but of course these are once again just rumors. For all we know it could be a new original IP.
This also does not rule out the possibility that Rocksteady could still eventually have plans for a Superman project down the line. So while some may mourn that the Caped Justice’s game isn’t in the works right now, it’s still a possibility.
It was smart for the studio to get ahead of the rumors and temper the expectations of their fans. People would have no doubt been very disappointed to not see Rocksteady at the awards after all the rumblings. And it might have made matters even worse if their next game announcement came and it wasn’t Superman related.
The tweet is also creating even more of a buzz with fans speculating and wondering just what the studios next game could be. Of course, whatever it may end up being there is no doubt that Rocksteady’s next project is surely going to have that level of quality that we have come to expect from the developer.
