Following rumors that Konami intends to ditch the console gaming market, it appears Microsoft wants to aid them in the transition. According to a source speaking with Rooster Teeth, Microsoft and Konami have been in talks to purchase and release the Silent Hills ip. Um, what?!
According to a “well-placed source”, Microsoft has been in talks with Konami to purchase Silent Hills and release it as an Xbox One exclusive. The source has stated Microsoft is “hungry” for exclusives and they intend to land the ip before E3. The property (Silent Hills) will reportedly cost Microsoft “billions”. Yeah, you may want to re-read all of that over.
The source has been well-known for reliable information (leaking the Kinect-less Xbox One, among other things). It appears Konami wants to be relieved of the console game business and could be in the process of selling their ips. While this remains just a rumor, there have been a number of occurrences that could prove this true (like Konami removing P.T. from PSN as “good faith” to Microsoft).
The source also states Silent Hills could release as soon as “March 2016” as the game is “80%” completed. Unless the rumors get confirmed before hand, we will most likely be waiting til Microsoft’s E3 conference for a formal announcement. What do you think? Are you excited the game could still see the light of day, or have these exclusivity deals been giving you headaches?
