So, the hype certainly must be real about Suicide Squad, which is already spawning a much anticipated Harley Quinn spin-off. But what other Task Force X characters could we see on the big screen?
Rumor has it, and keep in mind, these are just rumors, but after the mass of critical backlash Warner Bros. received following the release of Batman Vs. Superman, the company is looking to revitalize DC, and what better way to do that than turn to it’s newest big screen heroes…well, I mean villains. It is already confirmed by Warner Bros. that there will, in fact, be a Harley Quinn spin-off (which you can read more about here). But there are now some close to the WB studio suggesting that The Joker (played by Jared Leto) and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney) will also be receiving a lot of time in the spotlight with their own movies to come.
For many speculators, this does not come as a surprise. Marvel has been dominating the big screen as of late with Civil War, which surpassed The Dark Knight Rises with its global earnings Saturday, the 28th. So naturally, it feels like it’s time for DC to step its game up, and what better way to do that then embrace these, expected to be, fan favorites?
Yes. Expected, because keep in mind…Suicide Squad hasn’t even been released yet! Don’t get me wrong, it looks amazing! I’m so excited to see this movie…once it actually releases! We are already talking about three spin-offs and a sequel, and we can’t even confirm how well this movie will play out because we have only been watching trailers and teasers.
So my final thoughts, and I’m curious to hear yours, are that DC and WB could be setting themselves up for life with these four more movies looking to make easy money by banking off of fans falling in love with these villains and flocking to theaters for years to come. But it’s also a lot of eggs, albeit amazing looking ones, to throw into a basket that has only been advertised to us.
Of course, time will tell once Suicide Squad crashes into theaters August 5th, but it will be interesting to see how well DC and WB know their audience and how the rumors will grow as we get closer still to the thrilling release.
