Runescape, the game we all have fond memories of from some point in our lives, got a major graphic overhaul yesterday and a new and improved game client all thanks to NXT. Check out this article for the details on this major update!
So on April 18th, 2016 Runescape moved away from the Java based client they had been using in favor of a new client called NXT. The new game client is supposed to massively improve graphics and run exponentially smoother than the previous client. I can attest from personal experience that the new client is in fact a major graphical improvement, and it does seem to run smoother than the Java based one had in the past. The update does not come with any changes to the game itself however, it is simply a performance/graphic enhancing update.
Below you can find a few screenshots of what NXT has to offer you in Runescape:
As you can see most of the improvements come in the form of view distance, shadow effects, and lighting effects. These graphical updates can be noticeably seen in this side-by-side comparison:
To celebrate the launch of NXT, Jagex is hosting a screenshot contest that could win you an IRL (real life) crystal halberd and three months of free Runescape Membership, simply by posting screenshots of your Runescape adventures in the NXT client. For more information on the contest, click HERE.
Runescape has changed a lot over the years, but to me it is still just as fun as ever. If you ever want someone to play with or chat it up with while you play, I’m online as ethan123dyla! You can usually find me somewhere skilling and trying to figure out how to not be garbage at the new combat system. Happy gaming!
