It looks like we won’t have to wait much longer for the next installment in Crystal Dynamics rebooted Tomb Raider series. A surprise teaser trailer has revealed that Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be released September 14th later this year.
The teaser trailer only gives a very quick glimpse at the setting for the next game. As we see Lara sneaking through the jungle during an eclipse before she arrives at what appears to be Mayan temple ruins. The logo for the game also features an image of the eclipse, making it clear that this will be integral to the game’s plot.
Along with the release date for the game, fans of the series will be glad to hear that Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be released on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on the same day. This, of course, is great news as Rise of the Tomb Raider was a timed exclusive for the Xbox One. This meant Sony fans had to wait an entire year after the games initial release before it came to the PS4.
It is surprising that Square Enix announced this so early in the year. This would have been the perfect surprise announcement for their E3 showcase. Of course, this is most likely due to the Tomb Raider movie releasing this weekend. This does add some excitement to this year’s Fall lineup of games. As there will be quite a few AAA titles to choose from this Fall.
I am definitely looking forward to seeing a gameplay trailer later this year. The new Tomb Raider series has become known for its awesome game mechanics and rich gorgeous environments. It will be interesting to see Lara’s motive for exploring these ruins and exactly what is going on with this eclipse imagery.
We will keep you up to date with any more news to come from Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Until then be sure to check out WTFGamersonly for more great gaming articles and news.
