I thoroughly enjoyed Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit movies. I’ve watched them so many times it seems I could recite the script at this point. Naturally, this lead me to be a fan of their many games. From straight forward turn based games to the expansive open worlds of RPG’s, I’ve played just about every game taking place in the realm of the Lord Of The Rings.
On August 22nd, everyone will be exposed to what might just be the greatest game Tolkien’s realm has ever seen. Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment released a new captivating trailer welcoming us back to the massive open world of Middle Earth in their Shadow of Mordor sequel: Middle-earth: Shadow of War.
In the latest trailer, we are met with Mordor’s beauty and desolation. The strongholds and cities are splendorous sights to behold. I’m guessing that cinematic’s will have a large role in the telling of the story for this game. There may be some who dislike their gameplay being interrupted, but I particularly enjoy the breaks for the visuals and progression of storyline. I originally played Shadow of Mordor on Xbox One, but with the 4K trailer, I will definitely be exploring Shadows of War on PC where I can max out the graphics!
I couldn’t help but also notice that we might be making fairly large alliances in Shadow of War. At one point in the trailer, we see Talion walking among a battalion of Orcs and Uruk-hai. Perhaps this means we won’t be slaying everything that moves but instead might be more reliant on our good and bad choices made throughout the game.
I was a huge fan of Shadow of Mordor due largely to the excellent story, unique Nemesis System, and it’s immense environments. From the information provided by Warner Bros. the narrative of Shadow of Mordor is carried on in Shadow of War. This time we will travel to locations beyond the Land of Shadow (aka Mordor), including Orc stronghold Cirith Ungol, Gorgoroth, the lush Island of Nurn, and more.
With open world games becoming ever so popular, I could see this title winning Game of the Year. The Shadow of War PR Team said this when describing the lands in the new game:
“…larger, more varied and more dynamic than anything ever before.” – Shadow of War PR Team
The advanced Nemesis System has returned to make us yet again crave revenge. It will provide a unique playthrough in a world that adapts to our choices and where enemies are fighting us (and each other at times) to increase their rank, strength, and abilities. I’m expecting that when we fight higher ranking Orcs in this game, they will be an entirely new type of foe to out think and conquer.
In Shadow of War, we will meet new characters with their own backgrounds, fight diverse and fearsome enemies of Middle Earth, explore new and familiar locations, experience a plethora of personalities, and continue Talion’s and Celebrimbor’s story.
Shadow of War will be playable on Xbox One, PC (Windows 10), Playstation 4, Project Scorpio, and Playstation 4 Pro upon release.
