It’s been two years since the announcement of the Sly Cooper movie. Fans were thrilled to hear that their favorite thieving raccoon and his buddies were going to get some time on the big screen. However, just as quickly as it popped up, it faded away, leaving fans in limbo waiting for the movie’s release … or just some more details… or any information at all.
The film is to be directed by Kevin Munroe, and will be based on Sly Cooper and the Thevius Raccoonus, the first installment of the game series. In January of 2014, two official trailers for the movie were released to YouTube. At that time, Sly Cooper was set to release sometime in 2016. Here we are, almost halfway through the year, and we know just as much about the movie as we did when the trailers were first released. There have been no reports of the movie being canceled, so where’s Sly?
The delay could have to do with the Ratchet and Clank movie that will hit theaters on April 29th. Munroe is working on both films, and since Ratchet and Clank is being released first, it seems that Sly has taken a back seat for the time being. For those wondering if the Sly movie still might see a release this year, Munroe stated in a brief interview at WonderCon that it was unlikely, and that he’s just waiting for the call to dive into development. Since Ratchet was delayed for a year, my guess is that Sly will get the same treatment. After Ratchet and Clank is released, it might be worth it to check back and see if any news about our crafty raccoon surfaces.
