Sonic Boom! The animated television series starring your favorite blue hedgehog is premiering on Cartoon Network on Nov 8th. This series is part of the new Sonic franchise that includes two new games and a comic book series. The episodes are going to be 11 minutes long and will be comedy mixed with action. Think of the new Teen Titans show and that’s pretty much the premise of the series. You can see the new trailer for the animated series below, it actually made me laugh a few times at the punch lines but to each their own haha.
The two new games are called Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric and Shattered Crystal, for the Nintendo Wii U and The 3DS respectively. The Wii U version supports 4-player cooperative play and also competitive. These games are the final part in Sega’s exclusivity agreement with Nintendo to develop three Sonic games for their systems. Following the not so well received Sonic: Lost World and Mario and Sonic at the 2014 Olympic Games.
Sonic Boom is different from your run of the mill Sonic platformer game. It’s ultimately an action-adventure game with more focus on exploration and combat than speed. Shattered Crystal(3DS) however, will be a 2-d sidescroller akin to the style of early Sega Genesis titles, but with larger stages. The two games will serve as a prequel to the Sonic Boom TV series and they are both spinoffs of the franchise apparently. I guess you can say every game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series is a spinoff since he’s turned into a Werehog and has been a Black Knight in his “past” life. Lately Sonic and Sega have been off their game lately with these games, but I hope this turns out to be something great and different. Sonic just celebrated his 23rd birthday and this new fresh franchise is a great way to celebrate.
Both of the games come out on the same day which is November 11th! And don’t forget to tune into the series premiere of the show on November 8th on Cartoon Network.
