EA Play has come and gone, and some Star Wars announcements have been made. EA talked about the past and future of Star Wars Battlefront 2, and a new game was teased.
Apologies And New Content
EA had a lot of apologies to deliver this press conference. After all, the microtransactions and pay-to-win mechanics all but killed the momentum and goodwill fostered by the first few trailers of Battlefront 2. EA is clearly seeking to gain back the momentum robbed from their own mistakes and missteps.
The game is being reworked from the ground up to fix the issues created by the game’s previous infrastructure. Only time will tell if the fixes makes the game better and more importantly, whether the changes are too little, too late.
As for the upcoming free DLC, previously announced content based on Solo: A Star Wars Story will be making its way to the game soon, including maps, ships, and heroes. However, it has also been announced, that players can expect content from the Star Wars prequel films (Episodes I-III). Content includes new hero characters including, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Count Dooku, and General Grievous, as well as the new planet, Geonosis.
In addition to the Battlefront 2 updates, there was also an…announcement of a new Star Wars title as well. Why the ellipses? Well, because no gameplay nor a logo was shown. We do however have a title: Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. In addition, we know the game will take place in the long period of time between Episode III and Episode IV, during the era of the Galactic Empire, and follow a surviving Jedi.
Will this Jedi be an all-new character, or an existing Jedi survivor, like Ben Kenobi? Yoda? Ahsoka Tano, or even Kanan Jarrus? Your guess is as good as mine. The game is scheduled to launch the holiday season of 2019.
