Among all of the amazing Star Wars additions that Disney has announced to its theme parks at this year’s D23 convention, one in particular really managed to stand out. A Star Wars themed hotel that promises a fully immersive experience to all its guests is coming to Walt Disney Resorts in Orlando Florida. Exactly how immersive you may ask? Well, full details were not given, but there is definitely enough information to get any scruffy Nerf herder excited.
Disney Parks and Resorts chairman Bob Chapek described the new hotel by saying “It combines a luxury resort with immersion in an authentic environment.” He even went as far as saying that guests would be wearing Star Wars themed costumes and given individual back stories that would slowly unfold over the course of their trip not only in the resort but in the new Star Wars park as well. This is supposedly accomplished through Disney’s Magic Band system. Magic Band is essentially a wrist band that stores your ID, Credit Card, and Ticket Information on your wrist to be used throughout all of Disney’s Parks and Resorts. By adding your Star Wars back story to this technology you will be able to order a drink from a Star Wars theme bar or restaurant and the bartender may make a comment about something you experienced earlier in the park that day or even unfold more of your back story. It sounds rather ambitious but quite clever and if it works it will be downright brilliant.
Other information about the hotel revealed that all of its staff would be in character and droids and other creatures may be among the staff as well. Some concept art even revealed that all windows in the hotel will feature screens to give the illusion that the guests are truly in space. While no details have been given about pricing or exact opening dates, you’re likely going to want to save up a good bit of money and keep that Disney Resorts page on an open tab, because this sounds like it is likely to be quite expensive and very popular. However, to any Star Wars fan, this could be an incredible dream come true.
