Back in April, Lucasfilm announced that there is a will be an anime-inspired Star Wars series that takes place before The Force Awakens called Star Wars Resistance. The trailer has just debuted on Friday and if you haven’t seen it yet, you can check it out below.
This new series was created by Dave Filoni who also created Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars Forces of Destiny, as well as directed Star Wars: The Clone Wars. According to Dave Filoni, the idea for the latest animated series came from “[his] interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots.”
Star Wars Resistance will follow Kazuda Xiono who is a new pilot fighting for The Resistance and who is also tasked with a top-secret mission in The Resistance’s fight against The First Order. Along with Kazuda (or Kaz for short), there will be a new cast and BB-8 and Poe Dameron will make appearances in the newest series.
Along with the first look of the series, StarWars.com also provided a couple of details for the first episode which will be called “The Recruit” and is a 1-hour episode introducing Star Wars fans to the cast of the series along with giving the viewers a bit of the premise of the story.
The voice cast for Star Wars Resistance includes Oscar Isaac reprising his role as Poe Dameron and Gwendolyn Christie as Captain Phasma. Also joining them are Christopher Sean, Suzie McGrath, Scott Lawrence, Myrna Velasco, Josh Brener, Donald Faison, Bobby Moynihan, Jim Rash, and Rachel Butera.
The one-hour pilot episode of Star Wars Resistance is set to debut on Disney Channel, DisneyNow, and Disney Video-On-Demand on October 7 at 10 PM Eastern Time with the rest of the series being shown on Disney XD.
For me, I’m not too big of a fan of the art direction, but I hope it will grow on me. I’m also curious as to how early into the timeline do the events of Star Wars Resistance occur. What are your thoughts on the latest Star Wars animated series? Or what do you hope that the series will cover?
