It’s no secret that 25 years after the Kirby series made its debut in the world, the series is still going strong. In a Nintendo Direct a few months ago, it was announced that three different Kirby games are coming to Nintendo 3DS this year. But this isn’t the only thing on the horizon for the pink puffball. There is a new Kirby game coming to the Nintendo Switch next year!
If you are a fan of Kirby games, then much of the gameplay will look quite familiar. But we do have some changes. In Kirby Super Star, Kirby could sacrifice his current copy ability to make an ally based on the ability. This returns to some degree in the new game; Kirby is seen throwing a heart at an enemy to make it an ally. This can be done to make up to three allies, which can be controlled by AI or by human players!
Another addition is the ability to power up current copy abilities with other copy abilities. This is similar to ability fusion from Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards and Kirby Squeak Squad in which new abilities were created entirely from ability fusion. It will be interesting to see the different combinations players will be able to achieve.
The gameplay video shows that the partners can use their specific abilities to help solve puzzles. The example shown was a Parasol Waddle Dee using its parasol to block water from pouring on a bomb fuse so that Kirby could light the fuse to set off a bomb. It will be interesting to see how the AI will be able to solve such puzzles. Finally, many familiar villains such as Whispy Woods and Sir Kibble along with new enemies round out the cast of this new Kirby game.
What are you most looking forward to with this new game? Looking forward to potentially fighting some secret bosses from past Kirby games or anything else? Let us know! We are Wtfgamersonly on all your favorite social media, and you can talk Kirby with me on twitter!
