Fans of Iron Fist style brawling are in luck, as the next installment in the world-renowned, two-decade old fighting franchise, TEKKEN 7, has been confirmed by Namco Bandai to be heading towards the PlayStation 4!
As Street Fighter producer Yoshi Ono jokingly teased a new character to be revealed in his upcoming Street Fighter V video game during PlayStation’s Paris Games Week conference, Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada made his way towards the stage to share the platform with his pal and friendly rival to tease his inclusion in the Capcom fighter! As Ono’s SFV portion of the show ended, Harada remained on stage to not only announce progress on his latest Tekken project, but also to confirm that Tekken 7 will make it’s way onto the PlayStation 4 entertainment console.
But that’s not the half of it! Not only did Harada confirm that the latest Tekken, which has been heavily touted as the “last installment in the franchise” (yea, right), would in -fact be coming to PS4, but he also revealed the revelation that Tekken 7 will be compatible with PlayStation VR! Say whaaat? Virtual Reality Tekken?!? As he wrapped up his portion of the press conference, he also showed fans in attendance and those watching around the world a brand new trailer for Tekken 7, to help celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary. The new trailer, which begins as a montage to past Tekken titles leading up to the current, teases the inclusion of new character “Kazumi Mishima,” whom is revealed to be the wife of fan-favorite Heihachi Mishima and mother to their heir, Kazuya.
Tekken 7, currently in development by Namco Bandai, is currently expected to release on PlayStation 4 in 2016 and will utilize Unreal Engine 4 for the first time in franchise history.
