Telltale Games is known for taking popular franchises and turning them into some really fun choose-your-own adventure games. The studio unveiled last year at E3, that they are working on yet another episodic series based on the dark knight himself, Batman. The first details on the series have been unmasked during a panel at South by Southwest (SXSW) earlier today. The story will be unrelated to any other existing Batman comic, video game, and movie. It’s going to be easy for anyone to jump into the series without having any prior knowledge on Batman lore.
After the panel was finished up with, a blog was posted on Telltale’s website where they posted more details on the games direction.
“Batman is the perfect character for the studio to explore in a Telltale series, giving the team the opportunity to dive deeper into the mind of the man behind the mask. Each night, Bruce Wayne chooses to change Gotham for the better. The team wants to explore what the consequences are of the player’s actions when decisions made as Bruce have a critical impact on his nightly crusade as Batman, and vice versa. Certain key situations will give the player the decision to approach a scene as Bruce or Batman, with consequences for both sides.”
The story will solely focus on Batman and his alter-ego, Bruce Wayne. So don’t expect to see Robin, Night-wing or Catwoman. “Fans can expect certain series staples such as Alfred Pennyworth, Vicki Vale, James Gordon, and Renee Montoya. Telltale is looking to keep the villains more tightly under wraps until closer to the premiere.
The game will be premiering sometime this summer with an M rating for mature. The cinematic approach that Telltale is known for will make the game feel more like an R-rated film instead of a “video game”.
As a HUGE fan of Telltale games, I’m always excited for any new series that they are working on. Let us know how you feel about the company working on a Batman series!
