Destroy All Humans, a beloved, manic, insanely fun game was released 12 years ago yesterday by Pandemic Studios, with the first installment of this classic being released on PS2 and Xbox, the game placed you in third person control of Cryptospordium-137, a Furon who had been sent to earth by his commanders, to collect Furon DNA which had been embedded within humans.
Directed by Brad Welch and Tom Abernathy, the game threw you straight into the action and kicked off, a great trilogy of games. Games that ultimately allowed you to release anger, and either approach missions with great care, and stealth like behaviour; or attack with full force, and cause absolute terror to anyone who noticed your alien body. Honestly many game producers have attempted to create the perfect alien game, which explored the possibilities of causing havoc as an extraterrestrial, but in my opinion none of them came as close as Pandemic, with achieving this perfection.
Destroy all Humans, offered such a great frenzy of abilities, and ways to provoke insanity within the civilization, from cold blooded murder, taking the reign of a flying saucer, disguising as regular humans, picking up vehicles, from cars to tanks, and even controlling humans and animals, with psychokinesis. Truly this game was not even capped off by its game play, as the graphics, and unbelievably hilarious voice acting really emphasized the actual content of the game, as the Alien himself would consistently make you laugh with his crude one liners.
Who ever said sequels ruin games? As Destroy all Humans 2, just cultivated the game even more, and genuinely was my personal favorite game from the series, and by far my favorite ever alien game. Released in October 2006, Pandemic studios again successfully impressed, gaining great reviews, and truly establishing Destroy all Humans as an amazing Alien series. As well as this they ultimately looked at the small amount of mistakes within the first instalment, and fixed them, taking an already great game, and bringing it closer to perfection, taking away all the shortcomings, whilst keeping the crude, and marvelously funny attitude.
Best alien game ever may be a bold statement, but in my personal opinion there is no game that has been on the market, that gives you the same content, whilst offering a comedic story line and voice acting, involving great freedom and ultimately allowing you to be the alien you want to be.
What did you think of this game? Was it one of your favorite classics?
