Sometimes, there are games that stand the test of time for being just so darn good at what they do. There are quite a few titles that I’ve been dying to see a remake or remaster of. What’s the best way to mention those titles? Why, with a list of course. In this list, I’m looking to cover the titles I most want to replay in new HD glory, based on the fun I had when they first graced my screen. So take a dive into a nostalgic past with me and let’s see if you can find a title you want to play in HD as well!
Final Fantasy XII
This title is definitely is a first for Final Fantasy, and it was the last in the series that became available for the PlayStation 2 back in 2006. It was the first title to try its type of gameplay, it had unique characters and a more “grown up” story and an interesting summoning system based on zodiac signs. The real world politics within the fantastical universe, beautiful character designs and in-depth characterization from (most of) the characters, it’s a real fun ride that everyone should experience.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Vice City (based on Miami) was the place to be back in 2002. The PlayStation 2 title was the first (correct me if I’m wrong) GTA title to add multiplayer, allowing the second player to be a part of the story as a hooker or a number of other characters. Tommy Vercetti was a cool guy, just released from a 15 year prison sentence for the murder of 11 men in Liberty City. Take him and plant him in Miami, circa 1986. This title went on to becomethe best selling PS2 title of all time. Controversy, sex, violence, and the Forelli Family Crime. It’s a staple in Rockstar Games, and one that we could definitely take another look at for its free form and endless possibility.
Tomb Raider: Legend
Back in 2006, I grabbed a curious little Tomb Raider title that I hadn’t heard of, and found out it was one of the best platforming titles I’d played that year. The puzzles, the acrobatics, the story all culminated into a great adventure on a small screen. With the longest score in the series, the music was amazing. The PlayStation Portable version had a few extras, including the Tomb Trials. We’re talking a set of traps and acrobatics that you must complete in a timed manner. The story was a great length, dating back to the origins of Lara and her parents death. The boss fights were nothing to laugh at either. The entire presentation was just a great time. I’d be great to incorporate it into the Lara Croft multiverse in some way in HD format (I know I know there’s a PS3 HD version that technically counts, but I’d prefer they take what wonderful stuff the series did and implement it into future titles in an HD remaster).
Actually, I don’t even want a remaster, I want a new multiplayer Portal title. On next-gen consoles. Thanks.
An underrated yet hilarious title with a killer soundtrack. 2012 graced us with the original title that was Lollipop Chainsaw. Were the visuals and insane story to return in HD format, with more features, more story and a bit of a clean-up, It’d be a campy and hilarious title that would visually stun with its graphics and lead us to a new brand of video game title on the PS4.
