What would we do without our faithful video game companions? The guys that are always by your side regardless of how you sometimes treat them. They will be there to guide you on your journey through thick and thin. For this weeks #ThrowbackThursday, we are going to be talking about our favorite video game companions throughout history. Being a big Mario fan, It’s obvious that I just had to pick my favorite green dinosaur, Yoshi!
Yoshi has been around with Mario since forever! Ever since Mario was a baby, this little green dinosaur has been helping out in any way that he can. Yoshi can devour enemies for you and even spit fire out in certain situations. If necessary, Yoshi can get you up to high places, but with a cost. Yes, you have the ability in 2D Mario games to jump off of Yoshi’s back, leaving him to die! Its super unfortunate and sad to see Yoshi falling to his death down a dark pit. But Yoshi loves you and he knows you will eventually find him and lead him to the light!
Shigeru Miyamoto wanted to put Yoshi in his games ever since the first Super Mario Bros. game for the NES( Nintendo Entertainment System). Unfortunately due to the limitations of the console, it wasn’t quite possible at the time. Once the more powerful Super NES was released, Miyamoto was finally able to implement Yoshi into the series, putting Yoshi into the video game Super Mario World. Yoshi proved to be popular in this debut, which caused the next game in the series, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island, to focus on the Yoshi species.
Eventually leaving Mario to pursue his own ventures, Yoshis new game for Wii U, Wooly World releases later this year and it is insanely fun and beautiful.
Yoshi is such an important character in gaming, he’s the most loyal dinosaur/dragon that you will ever find.
