Let’s be honest, 2017 has been a great year for games. With some absolutely stunning games being released from timeless classics being remastered (even if they are much harder than we remember) to completely new games smashing the scene. It’s safe to say this has been the year of the Nintendo Switch though, it has smashed other consoles on sales, and has had every Nintendo fan boy locked up in their room. However, the year is far from over, and I’m going to share my top 5 most anticipated games, taking a look at how good I think they will be and giving you a release date.
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
This is by far my most anticipated game, and to be truly honest I really can’t wait for this game to be released. Its predecessor Wolfenstein: The New Order, was sensational, using old school style first person shooting and combining it with amazing stealth sequences, without becoming tedious; which so many other games failed to do. From first glances at the sequel, it looks as though it may continue with the trend and the story line revolving around a Nazi occupied America looks spectacular, never mind the fact that the first mission involves mindlessly slaying Nazis from the comfort of a wheelchair as you’re slowly pushed back by the recoil, showing that detail and passion has been thrown into the game. Released October 27th.
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus will release on October 27th.
Honestly, this year has been great for remastered games and it looks as though there will be many more favorites to come. Blizzard has seized that opportunity and continued to give the gift of a Starcraft remaster; overhauling everything from the units and maps, all the way to the audio, whilst allowing it to run in 4K. It will involve new parts of the story, building on parts of the story demonstrated through text, whilst adding matchmaking and leaderboards. I have a lot of hope for this remaster, and despite so many of them being done incorrectly in the past, it seems as though Blizzard has gone about this the right way. August 14th.
Starcraft Remastered will be released on August 14th.
Call of Duty: WWll
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, was one of the first games I truly binged. Every day after school I would come home straight away to play online with my friends or solo. This was continued through Call of Duty 5 and 6, with Modern Warfare 2 being one of my favorite games of all time, giving me memories for a life time. After this though, it seemed to go down hill with games becoming too advanced and unrealistic, becoming hard to play, never mind enjoy.
With this entry, however, it seems as though they have gone back to basics, bringing back the feel of an FPS and actually allowing you to become immersed and intrigued by what the game has to offer without losing the quality graphics and game play. I truly hope that’s what has been captured here and they don’t attempt to overload every game with too much and create a chaotic game where no one really knows what is happening.
Call of Duty: WWII will release November 3rd.
Star Wars Battlefront II
This is another game where I’m honestly not too sure whether it will be a sucess or not, but never the less, I’m excited as it seems as though more time, effort, and patience has been put into this game compared to its predecessor, meaning this could be the game were all hoping for. Especially fans of the 2005 Star Wars Battlefront, such as myself.
It seems as though it might be entering hyper speed on its way towards that goal, as it includes space battles, a single player campaign, a class system, and maps spanning across the entirety of the Star Wars spectrum. This game will undeniably have critics but should win over a lot of people.
Star Wars Battlefront II will release on November 17th.
This game is at the bottom of my list just due to the fact that it seemed like it would never come out. With overhaul after overhaul, with the release date being pushed back each time. Despite that, this could be the time as the development team seems to have either finished or be on track for finishing the changes, which push it into a pure platformer game, as long as this hasn’t changed too much of the actual visuals or gameplay. Cuphead should be a spectacular game, which is sure to steal a large portion of your time.
Cuphead should release on September 29th (hopefully).
That rounds out my top 5 list of 2017 games. Are there any of these titles you’re thinking of picking up?
