The Final Fantasy 14 Fan Fest was this past weekend and Square Enix made it quite the spectacle. After many rumors and speculations based on the latest patch for FFXIV, Square Enix unveiled the next major expansion to the game; Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood.

In addition to the trailer, several updates coming to Final Fantasy XIV were also announced. Details about the Stormblood expansion included the increased level cap from 60 to 70, new classes, and an array of new gear that will be coming. None of the new classes have been confirmed, yet there have been a lot of hints.
Producer and Director Naoki and Yoshida took the stage to discuss new dungeons on the way, high-level raids, and that there will be several new Primals to fight in the expansion.
In Stormblood, the story will center around the liberation of Ala Mhigo. The primary enemy being the Empire will be featured in all new fights, and XIIth Legion Legatus Zenos yae Galvus, ruler of the occupied Ala Mhigo, will be featured as one of the main fights in the expansion. He is also the only new enemy we get to see for now.
The most exciting update, which possibly received a bigger applause than the expansion confirmation itself, was the inclusion of an increased inventory space coming to the game. Although, Yoshida made sure to mention how increased inventory will be a major update and the server may require testing to ensure stability. So, while this is definitely something coming to the game, it may not be in the initial expansion but in an update shortly after the release.
There was one bit of (kind of) sad news. With the release of Stormblood, Final Fantasy XIV will no longer be supported on the Playstation 3. Yoshida gave a heartfelt speech about how the game would be nowhere near where it is today without the Playstation 3, but unfortunately as the game moves forward they must end support on the older system. There will be a PS3 to PS4 upgrade campaign to make up for this. Players on Playstation 3 will be able to upgrade to the Playstation 4 version of the game without having to purchase the game all over again. Simply get a PS4 and get back on the game.
Yoshida also gave little screenshots and in game footage of a few of the new areas to show just how massive and diverse the new regions will be. Current players may think that since the expansion will focus on Ala Mhigo, the game may be just a lot of desert. Yoshido showed off images of woods, swamps, and the giant wall between the Black Shroud and Ala Mhigo. He then confirmed that we will find out just how we’re getting over that wall in the upcoming Patch 3.5.
The final piece of art shown was a poster image for the expansion drawn up in classic Final Fantasy style by the legendary artist Yoshitaka Amano.
The realm of Eorzea is growing, Warriors of Light. Are you ready to finally take back Ala Mhigo?
