With Nintendo having a pretty lackluster year in terms of their first party titles, I believe Nintendo is giving it all for the launch of their next console. This console codenamed “The NX”, is rapidly approaching its reveal and release. It’s rumored to be the next thing that will somehow merge handheld gaming with console gaming and it might be what Nintendo needs to get back into the game after having a poor past few years with their abysmal Wii U sales. Read on to find out what I want from this “console” and what Nintendo needs to have on it to succeed in this industry. The company is faced up against a beast of a system called the PS4 and slightly smaller but a still a beast of a console which is the Xbox One.As a somewhat proud owner of a Wii U and a 3DS, It’s a fact that I have had some amazing gameplay experiences on these two systems, the 3DS especially. Some of my favorite games of all time like Link Between Worlds, Kingdom Hearts 3D, and Resident Evil Revelations all came to the system which blew my mind at the time. But now games are slowly releasing between systems and it seems that Nintendo is moving all development towards the NX. With the Wii U only releasing around 3 years ago, it kind of sucks to see the system already being pushed aside. I bought it day one and now I don’t even know if I’ll be able to play the next 3D Legend of Zelda on it. Yes, Nintendo announced that it’s still coming to the Wii U, but I can say that the game is most definitely going to be a launch title for the NX. The same situation that happened with Twilight Princess for the GameCube and Wii.
Nintendo has always been great at supporting their handheld systems. They always sell like hotcakes and third-party support is prominently there. I have always wanted Nintendo just to cut the development of consoles and just stick to handhelds. They will save money and will sell much more if their Mario games were available on PS4 and Xbox One. Just bring all of their I.P’s over to other consoles and they will sell like crazy. The games will look better because of the powerful systems and gamers will become more familiar with characters that they usually wouldn’t know about. Nintendo seems obsessed with making consoles. I don’t know why that is, but quite frankly, they suck at it. Nintendo is good at making games not systems.
With the NX supposedly being the best of handheld/console gaming, there is a sliver of hope that gamers will be interested in it. If I can play my console quality games on the go without limitations then sign me up. I won’t have to worry about having a handheld and also a console, I would just have to have an NX.
The system is coming this year whether we like it or not and Nintendo obviously thinks this is a smart idea. The company must have had to learn their lesson and I’m sure that they clean up their mistakes that happened with the Wii U and go back to being the Nintendo I know and love.
What do you think of the NX? Do you plan on buying one and do you think it’s a good idea to release a console in the middle of the PS4 and Xbox One’s life cycle? LET US KNOW!
